2009-2010 Project List

12.2010 – 12.2010 District-wide Disaster Recovery Solution – Tejano Center for Community Concerns

Worked with eConsortium, Houston, TX to replace old tape backup system with Barracuda Storage Server and convert Backup Exec server to backup to NAS storage. Created backup SLA and SOP for both Houston and Brownsville campuses.

  • Installed Barracuda Storage server
  • Reimaged old backup server with Windows Server 2008R2 and installed upgraded version of Backup Exec 2010
  • Install two 4 TB NAS boxes
  • Deploy Barracuda agent to all domain controllers, exchange server, file servers, app servers and Hyper V servers.
  • Configure Symantec Backup Exec agents to all accounting workstations.
  • Create backup jobs for automated backup for both backup devices to run at different times while setting both full and incremental backup schedules
  • Create backup reporting notifications for errors, job completion, online storage usage, and NAS storage usage

12.2010 – 12.2010 Windows 7 Migration
Set up WDS for deployment of Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit images that were created with all end user software. Each image deployed was developed for PC/laptop platform. Used network to deploy to 200+ users. Upgraded RAM on older PCs to support 32 bit images.

09.2010 – 12.2010 Phase III - Administration Office Design
Design specifications for new administration offices, library and auditorium. Plan the deployment and configuration of access control systems, security cameras, Wired/Wireless LAN, intercom, audio and projection, POS systems, biometric systems, and other necessary IT related equipment and services. Work with consultants to secure competitive bids for all equipment and services.

07.2010 - -9.2010 Phase III - Server Room Design
Design layout of new server room. Work with service providers to move DEMARK from existing location to new location. Spec out power requirements for servers, KVMs and UPSs. Design layout of cabling infrastructure for supporting server environment. Spec out cooling/heating for new server room.

07.2010 - -11.2010 SharePoint Project, Tejano Center for Community Concerns
Design layout for new Tejano Center web site and RYSS web site. Design layout for new organizational intranet. Design layout for new online classroom management system. Work with consultants to define all prerequisites, supply images and photos along with all other required documentation prior to deployment. Train end users to capitalize on the abilities of the new SharePoint software.

09.2010 - 10.2010 NComputing Upgrade - Hyper V Project
Upgraded two NComputing servers from 18 GB of RAM to 36 GB of RAM. Removed all VM Ware ESXi servers and guest OS. Installed Hyper V services on Windows Server 2008 R2 platform. Installed 16 guest Windows Server 2003 OS's for NComputing
servers. Reconfigured guest operating systems with less RAM, individual LAN cards, and increased amount of guest OSs from 8-16 to support a total of 480 end users from two physical servers.


04.2010 - 09.2010 Phase II - New Construction Implementation
*Install new Continential Access Control systems with access control designated for all exterior doors, science labs, records storage and Administrative offices.
*Install new hi definition security cameras in interior of building including stairwells and elevator. Install hi definition security
cameras on exterior of building to monitor parking lot, driveways and all entry points to the new facility.
*Install new overhead projectors in 33 classrooms along with ceiling tile speakers
*Install CISCO 3750 POE switches for LAN infrastructure
*Install CISCO wireless controller and 11 APs for wireless coverage in 3-story building
*Install ValCom integrated bells/clocks/intercom system in 33 classrooms
*Install burglar alarm system that is interfaced with the Access Control System to provide 24/7 security

07.2010 - 08.2010 Teacher Laptop Project
Spec out and order 75 laptops for teachers and staff members. Reimage all laptops with standard software package (Windows 7 Professional, Office 2010, Adobe, etc) and configure for individual users.

06.2010 - 08.2010 Summer Mentor Program
Work with SER Jobs for Progress workers. Train students 15-18 years of age to work as Desktop Support Technicians for a period of 10 weeks. Trained twelve students to install operating systems on PCs and laptops, research supported drivers, and install supported software. Taught students to diagnose network connectivity issues, printer issues, and support other application software.

06.2010 - 08.2010 Summer Relocation Project
Pull back all PCs, laptops, NComputing systems, printers, TVs, DVRs, etc. from 50+ classrooms and offices and redeploy to newly assigned areas. Rebuild four 20+ user labs along with 50 mini (8-10 user) classroom labs.

03.2010 - 06.2010 Email Project
Deploy newly installed and tested email system to 200+ end users. Deployed BES Server Express to 50+ end users. Pull down all email from inboxes of old web-based email system and upload to end users. Setup individual users to use Outlook 2003, 2007 or 2010 with Exchange 2010. Work out compatibility issues with Outlook 2003
and Exchange 2010. Setup Blackberry devices to work with BES server. Setup generic handheld devices to work with Active Sync Trained end users on upgraded software - Office 2010. Trained end users on Active Sync and BES services

02.2010 - 05.2010 Phase II - New Construction Design
Design newly constructed three story building to support the following services:
*Access Control
*Security Cameras
*Bells/Clocks/Intercom
*Burglar alarms
*Wired LAN
*Wireless LAN
*Overhead LAN managed projectors
*Classroom audio
*CISCO Call Manager
*Digital Signage
*NComputing (10 units per classroom and two labs)

02.2010 - 05.2010 Computer Replacement Project
Remove all old Pentium III and Pentium IV PCs from service. Install new NComputing L230 modules for 200 users on Houston campus and 100 modules for Brownsville campus. Configure all new virtual guest OS (Windows Server 2003) to work as PC OS and support Office 2007, Gimp, BRL CAD, Adobe Reader, Flash Player, Java JRE 1.6, Shockwave Player, Adobe Air, TelPas, Panda AV, and VSpace for students to use with
NComputing modules. Guest Server capacity - 30 end users. Physical server capacity - 120 end users X2. Set up two labs that supported 40 end users in an education environment. Set up classrooms to support 10-15 end users each.

12.2009 - 04.2010 Phase I - Infrastructure Implementation
Deployed two new domain controllers - one as primary and the second as a backup controller. Primary domain controller was configured to also serve as the file server where all staff members had documents redirected and stored. Primary controller also set up with public shared storage to give temporary solution for multiple users to share files. Secondary controller set up to serve as application server for applications that manage students. Server also configured as a web server to provide access to newly deployed help desk solution. Cable and fiber installation for 10 classrooms. Rerouted fiber from old Senior Academy and Accounting portables to MDF. Set up new IDF in Junior Academy portables. Strung aerial fiber to new construction. Merged voice and data cabling infrastructures. Setup Nortel BCM to support phones on data LAN. Installed Exchange 2010 email server and deployed to test users. Configured for web access. Configured active sync for non- Blackberry users. Identified all cables to MDF and IDFs. Completed recabling all IDFs and MDF. Relabeled all IDFs and MDF. Installed Cisco LinkSys managed switches in all IDFs and MDF. Configured for both voice and data.

11.2009 - 02.2010 ERate Project
Identify equipment and services that would qualify for the 2010-2011 funding year. Work with vendors to receive quotes and contracts for eligible services and equipment for entire district. Identified 700 cable drops, wired/wireless LAN equipment, routers, firewalls, call manager, digital signage, web server, KVM, and UPS along with T1 lines, PBX, and all other telephone services for a total of 1.5M to be submitted under the Federal ERate program.

09.2009 - 12.2009 Infrastructure Design
Design new infrastructure from ground up. Speced out two domain controllers, one file server and one application server with
larger capacity and more processing capabilities. Plan for the inplementation of an email server, and two VM Ware servers that would host a total of 8 virtual guest OS. Spec out VM Ware servers to support 400+ end users. Design new wired infrastructure that utilizes CAT6 UTP and multi-mode fiber connections. Plan for rerouting of all fiber for four buildings and replacement of old CAT 6 cable.

06.2009 - 08.2009 Summer Inventory Project
Inventory 600+ PCs and laptops as well as all printers, projectors, TV, DVRs, security cameras, infrastructure equipment and video conferencing equipment. Setup Access database to manage all equipment. Label and document equipment locations. Document equipment types, makes, model, manufacturers, and warranty information.

01.2009 - 05.2009 Teacher Training Program
Instituted training program for staff and teachers to learn both Microsoft Office 2007 and the newly deployed classroom management system. Taught 20+ end users for the Junior Academy to utilize Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.

01.2009 - 02.2009 Junior Academy Classroom lab Project
Reimage donated laptops with Windows OS and install supported software for student use. Deployed six laptops for mini-labs to 14 classrooms.

11.2008 - 01.2009 Student Classroom Management Project
Develop open-source software - Moodle and Joomla - to support classroom management system and Junior Academy web site. Develop Junior Academy web site based on Joomla 1.5 software to give teachers and staff members a place to broadcast
classroom activities, homework, and links for research as well as information about the school. Develop online classroom based on Moodle LMS to support online classes for students to work interactively with teachers for all classes 6-8. Deploy classroom management system and web site.

10.2008 - 12.2008 EDUSS Lab Project
Design new lab to support NComputing L230 modules. Spec out and build new server to support NComputing system. Setup and configure EDUSS server to work with NComputing system. Benchmark lab to verify configuration of server. Configure EDUSS learning software for student access. Train end users to capitalize on the functionality of software.
